What's New??

5 Ideas to Prevent a January Ministry Lull:
1. Double points night The first meeting in January is double (or dare-I-say TRIPLE?) points night as a fun way to get everyone back after the holiday break. 2. Host a chili cookoff This is great to do with adult AND kid divisions. Come hungry, everyone! 3. Have fun theme nights Glow night, Snowball night, Luau night, Maze / Escape Room night, are all theme ideas to generate some buzz for the new year. 4. Host an Awana Grand Prix Take the month of January to do "pit nights" where kids prepare their cars for this pinewood derby-style race, then race in early February -- just in time for the Daytona 500! If you can, decorate well and maybe even arrange to have a show racecar in the parking lot for the event! 5. New Years Eve Bash / Dodgeball Tournament If you're a club that meets on Wednesdays, try doing a New Year's Eve party this year as a fun way to bring families to the church on Wednesday night. You could include a tournament as well! Options could be Gaga Ball, Dodgeball, Four Square, or Basketball! |
1. Have a "question of the night" that you ask kids before, during, and after club.
Listen to their responses and get to know the kids in your ministry. Samples could be, "Do you have any pets?", "What's something you're really good at?", and "Where do you like to go when you're not at church or school?". 2. Have a team of great greeters! By the time a child arrives at their opening classroom or meeting space, have a goal that at least three volunteers/staff members have welcomed them. Greet them with a smile and fist bump at the check-in station, at the door, and even in the parking lot. We cannot "over welcome" kids and families to our church! 3. Share a quick story at the end of the club night. As parents are picking up their kids, try to share a quick 15-20 second praise about their child that night, and preferably in front of the child so they hear it. You will not be able to do that with every child, every week, but make a point to share a compliment with each parent at least once a month. |
Don't hand parents another resource to hang on the fridge for a week. It's time to change the culture of the home!
The Formational Home Event Kit provides everything needed for a four-week small group event, where parents will gain insight and tools to help develop confidence in discipling children. This kit is designed to completely transform the culture of the home, prioritizing discipleship above all else. This would be an excellent Bible study or Sunday school class! This kit is available as a digital download for only $99 at: https://childdiscipleship.com/discipleship-event-kits/event-kits/. It includes conversation guides, participant handouts, PowerPoint slides, and numerous hands-on activities to help any parent make at-home discipleship more attainable. |
